Nassau is located on the northeast coast of New Providence Island, one of several islands that make up The Bahamas. It is the capital city of The Bahamas.
Known as the cultural, social, political and economic centre of The Bahamas, Nassau is the most visited destination in the islands. Tourists say it's the pristine, sandy beaches, duty-free shopping, posh resorts, dazzling casinos, historical landmarks and water and land sports of every kind that keep them going back to Nassau.
For those that prefer quiet, secluded beaches, the south and far west sides of New Providence Island have several to choose from.
Sportfishing enthusiasts can deep-sea fish a mere 15 minutes after leaving port, as only 5 miles out from shore the natural shelf drops to over a mile deep. Fishermen worldwide come to The Bahamas to test their skills with marlin, tuna, amberjack, wahoo and bonita each year.
There's certainly no shortage of heat in Nassau. The city's hottest months are June to October, when daytime highs range from 30 to 32 degrees Celsius and nighttime lows range from 22 to 24. The rest of the year, daytime highs are in the mid-to-high 20's and nighttime lows are in the high teens.
To the delight of beachgoers, there's also an abundance of bright, warm sunshine in Nassau. Each month, tourists can bask in more than 210 hours of rays and nearly 280 hours in the month of April.
