Cayo Largo is one of Cuba's 4,000 islets, located just off the southwest Cuban mainland and bordered by the Caribbean Sea.
Boasting miles of untouched, white-sand beach and warm, turquoise waters, Cayo Largo is one of the most beautiful areas in Cuba to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Water enthusiasts will find Cayo Largo ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing. Nature enthusiasts, meantime, will be thrilled to see tame iguanas on Cayo Iguana, monkeys on Canyon Cantiles and tortoises, which still lay their eggs on some beaches.
There's also plenty of sun and heat to make Cayo Largo a true tropical paradise. Daytime highs from March to November range from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows during this period are a comfortable 19 to 23 degrees Celsius.
Expect to see some rain on Cayo Largo about 10 days per month from May to October, but it's these brief spurts of rain that keep the islet looking so lush and tropical. They're also what you'll need after a long day at the beach.
Tourists should be aware that Cayo Largo can be affected by tropical depressions, tropical storms and hurricanes during the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30.
