Cayo Coco is one of Cuba's 4,000 islets, located just off the northeast Cuban mainland and bordered by the North Atlantic Ocean.
Because Cayo Coco is environmentally protected, the islet is a true tropical paradise, boasting some of the most beautiful white-sand beaches in the Caribbean, warm turquoise waters, lush vegetation and 159 species of birds, including pink flamingos.
If you're looking to take home some souvenirs, some of the best buys on Cayo Coco include Cuban cigars and rum. There are also plenty of entertainment options for those who want to keep busy, including exquisite restaurants and night clubs and a myriad of water and land sports.
To the delight of beach-lovers, there's certainly no shortage of sun or heat on Cayo Coco. Daytime highs from March to November range from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows during this period are a comfortable 19 to 23 degrees Celsius.
Expect to see some rain on Cayo Coco about 10 days per month from May to October, but it's these brief spurts of rain that keep the islet looking so lush and tropical.
Tourists should be aware that Cayo Coco can be affected by tropical depressions, tropical storms and hurricanes during the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30.
