Before You Go - Packing Your Carry-On Baggage

Tips on packing your carry-on baggage

It is important to remember that certain items are not permitted beyond the pre-board screening (PBS) checkpoint. If you have any doubts about an item, place it in your checked baggage. Here are some other tips on packing your carry-on baggage:

  • Efficiently packing your carry-on baggage will help facilitate and speed up the process at the pre-board screening checkpoint.
  • Place personal items (i.e. toothbrush) in clear plastic bags.
  • It is recommended that medication be placed in your carry-on baggage. Please ensure that it is properly labelled (professionally printed label identifying the medication or a manufacturers name or pharmaceutical label).
  • If you are concerned about the camera film in your carry-on baggage, you may request a physical search. It should be noted that camera film under 800 ASA/ISO will not be damaged by equipment at the pre-board screening checkpoint. However, multiple exposures (more than five times) of the same roll of film to PBS X-ray inspection may cause damage. Digital disks are unaffected and can be packed in any baggage.
  • Do not wrap gifts. Their contents may need to be inspected.

Items permitted in carry-on baggage include:

  • Electronic equipment, such as cellular phones, portable computers, portable music players.
