Originally known as Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, June 24 celebrates both the summer solstice and the feast of John the Baptist. The Quebec legislature declared June 24 a public holiday in 1925.
Since 1984, celebrations have been coordinated by the National Movement of Quebeckers, growing larger every year.
