  3. I have been prompted to upgrade my WeatherEye to a new version but I keep getting an error from the installer?

There are several reasons why you may not be able to download the upgrade:

    • When you first download the WeatherEye application, it will store your files in your local user’s settings folder on your computer (usually "C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\TheWeatherNetwork\WeatherEye" in Windows XP). If at any time you have changed the location of your files, the upgrade mechanism will not be able to locate them on the computer. You can upgrade the application by downloading the latest version from the WeatherEye page.

    • If you are upgrading from WeatherEye 2.x to WeatherEye 3.0, you must have administrative access to upgrade the WeatherEye application on your computer. (If you are unsure if you have administrative access please refer to your Operating System manual or speak with your IT support team.)
    • For users that do not have administrative access to their computer, follow these simple steps to upgrade:

      • when WeatherEye 2 prompts you to upgrade, click "no" or "cancel"
      • exit WeatherEye 2 by right clicking on the system tray icon and select the Exit menu item
      • download the latest version of the application from our downloads page
      • once downloaded, run the application and follow the prompts to install
Once Weather 3.0 is installed, upgrades to the application can be done with or without administrative access.
    • Are you connected to the Internet? An active internet connection is required for the WeatherEye to get updated data from our servers.
    • Do you have a compatible operating system with our WeatherEye application? A Windows 2000, XP, Vista or 7 operating system is required to operate this WeatherEye version.
    • When we release a new version, it takes several days to update all of our customers. If you have received a prompt to upgrade but have clicked "later" it may take some time before you see the prompt again. If you want to access the latest version quickly, you can install it from here.

  5. My WeatherEye says it is connecting but it is not showing any weather data for my city?

There are several reasons why you may not be seeing weather data:

    • Are you connected to the Internet? An active internet connection is required for the WeatherEye to get updated data from our servers.
    • Do you have a compatible operating system with our WeatherEye application? A Windows 2000, XP, Vista or 7 operating system is required to operate this WeatherEye version.
    • The WeatherEye is scheduled to call for data at certain time intervals throughout the hour. To manually call for new data, click the Refresh button on the application window. Your WeatherEye will get the latest information available from our servers.
    • To service our 2 million WeatherEye users, we serve our weather data from a large network of servers. If one of the servers is having issues you may not get updated data immediately. By manually calling for new data, the application should retrieve data from one of the operational servers. If you are still having issues after a significant period of time, please contact us here and we will address your concerns as quickly as possible.

  37. Norton Internet Security Suite and installation of the WeatherEye.

If you are running Norton Personal Firewall and would like to install the WeatherEye, first make sure that the Norton Firewall icon in the system tray is allowing incoming traffic. Once you begin the download process, Norton will recognize that The Weather Network is attempting to connect to your computer and will display the dialog box, "Always block connections from this program on all ports (recommended)" DO NOT SELECT OK (doing so will block the download process and any future downloads from www.theweathernetwork.com )

On the screen, you will see a pull-down menu in which you will select. "Always allow connection from this program on all ports". If this popup message appears again during the installation process or during the initial start up of WeatherEye, again select "Always allow connection from this program on all ports" prior to clicking the OK button.

If during the installation process, you accidentally clicked the default selection, "Always block connection from this program on all ports" you will need to access Norton Personal Firewall and remove www.theweathernetwork.com from your blocked list. You can change this setting by right clicking on the Norton Personal Firewall icon in your system tray and then selecting Norton Personal Firewall (at the top of the menu items). This will open up a dialogue box where you will select "Statistics" from the left hand navigation menu and then click the "View Logs" button. Within the Log Viewer window, select "firewall" from the left hand list then click on the page with the "x" through it in the top bar. Click "yes" when asked if you want to clear all log entries.
