A low pressure system south of Nova Scotia this morning will rapidly intensify as it tracks northeastward today and tonight. The low is expected to pass just southeast of the Avalon Peninsula Friday morning. Snow at times heavy associated with this system will begin over Southern Newfoundland this evening and spread northward overnight. Snowfall amounts ranging from 15 to 25 cm are expected across the eastern half of Newfoundland with the highest amounts expected just west of the Avalon to Terra Nova and over the Burin Peninsula. Over the Avalon Peninsula: the heavy snow will change to showers overnight in the south and early Friday morning in the north. West of the Avalon Peninsula: the snow will taper off Friday morning in the south and near noon elsewhere. Motorists are advised that visibilities will be poor in the heavy snow as well as localized areas of blowing snow especially overnight into Friday morning.
