Winter Storm WarningIssued at 4:38 p.m. EST Saturday 24 January 2015
Hazardous winter conditions are expected. An intense low pressure system will track across the Maritimes Sunday and affect the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula and the Lower North Shore starting overnight tonight. This system will bring significant snowfall accumulations possibly reaching 15 to 25 cm and strong winds reaching 100 km/h causing blowing snow in several of these regions. Precipitation will also turn to freezing rain Sunday morning in areas from Natashquan to Blanc-Sablon. On the Gaspé Peninsula, the heavy snow will be over on Sunday morning, but strong northwest winds and blowing snow will persist until the end of the day.Details
Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together. Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required.
