Winter Storm Warning

Summary

Hazardous winter conditions are expected. A low pressure system will develop near Cape Hatteras today and move North to lie South of Nova Scotia tonight. Precipitation from this system will reach the island this evening as snow. The snow will persist overnight and into Thursday before tapering to flurries late in the day. Total snowfall amounts of up to 30 cm are forecast.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
