Snow Squall Watch

Issued at 05:05 Friday 12 February 2016
Summary

Snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow, and snow will quickly accumulate. An Arctic cold front is poised to cross Southern Ontario later today and introduce the coldest air of the season. As a result, a band of intense snow squalls is expected to develop and move across the region this afternoon. Accumulations will not be significant out of this band but visibilities may be near zero in heavy snow and blowing snow. Further flurries and possible snow squalls are likely to affect the Collingwood area tonight and Saturday with significant accumulation possible. Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #ONStorm.
