Snow Squall Warning

Issued at 09:24 Friday 12 February 2016
Summary

Bands of lake effect flurries and snow squalls have developed across Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and are affecting the regions. These snow bands will continue in the area until mid to late afternoon, after which they are forecast to shift southward as a cold front passes. Under the heaviest snow squalls, snow will accumulate rapidly at rates up to several centimetres per hour. Very poor to nil visibilities will also be associated, due to the heavy falling snow and blowing snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #ONStorm.
