A low pressure system over the Labrador coast will continue to gradually track northeastward out to sea this afternoon. Over the Great Northern Peninsula, strong southwesterly winds are expected to intensify today. Wind gusts will reach up to 110 km/h this afternoon and evening before subsiding later tonight. Additionally, strong cold southwesterly winds have resulted in the development of local snow squalls along the west coast of Newfoundland today. These snow squalls are expected to persist during the day with local accumulations up to 10 centimetres possible. This fresh snowfall will also combine with strong winds to reduce visibility in blowing snow today. Conditions are expected to improve this evening as winds weaken.
