Snowfall Warning

Issued at 15:47 Friday 05 February 2016
Summary

Snowfall, with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected. A Pacific frontal system crossing the interior tonight will bring snow to most southern highway passes. Snow amounts near 15 cm can be expected over the Coquihalla Summit and Kootenay Pass by early tomorrow morning before the snow tapers off. Over the Coquihalla Summit rain will change to snow heavy at times this evening due to dropping snow levels. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. ShiftIntoWinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains. Road conditions are available at www.drivebc.ca. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to pacificstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #BCStorm.
