At 4:16 p.m. PDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, dime to nickel size hail and heavy rain. At 4:15pdt, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms over central and south Okanagan Valley capable of producing very strong wind gusts, dime to nickel size hail and heavy rain. The thunderstorms will affect Highway 33 from Kelowna to Beaverdell in the next 30 minutes. Updated or ended by 7:08 p.m. PDT. Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe. The main threat is a heavy downpour of 25mm/hour. Strong wind gusts and moderate hail are also possible. Fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any storm that develops. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
