Special Air Quality Statement

Issued at 14:32 Saturday 29 August 2015
Summary

Poor air quality over Southern Saskatchewan continues this weekend with a brief reprieve expected tonight into Sunday. Forest fire smoke travelling in from the Northwestern United States has reduced visibilities and created poor air quality over much of Southern Saskatchewan this weekend. As upper level winds back to a more southerly direction, a brief reprieve is expected tonight into Sunday. However, winds veer back to a westerly direction late Sunday and with them reduced visibilities and poor air quality should return over much of Southwestern Saskatchewan. Individuals living in or travelling in this area are advised to be aware of potential health concerns that can be associated with current air conditions. In the current conditions, even healthy individuals may experience temporary irritation of eyes and throat, and possibly shortness of breath. Air quality can vary with weather conditions and prevailing winds. Because air quality is expected to be variable, this advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
