Heat Warning

Hot and humid conditions continue late this afternoon with humidex values in the 40s reported in several locations including Winnipeg, Gretna and Emerson. A cold front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to southern Manitoba on Friday. Ahead of this front, regions in southeastern Manitoba may once again experience humidex values near 40C before the front moves through Friday evening bringing with it cooler weather for the weekend and into next week. While extreme heat can put everyone at risk from heat illnesses, health risks are greatest for - older adults - infants and young children - people with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties, heart conditions or psychiatric illnesses - people who work in the heat - people who exercise in the heat - people without access to air conditioning and - homeless people. Never leave people or pets in your care inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.
