Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Issued at 19:09 Tuesday 04 August 2015

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain. A upper level system moving into southern Alberta has initiated some severe thunderstorms this afternoon which will continue into this evening. To report severe weather, you can also call 1-800-239-0484. Fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Stay away from all windows, skylights and doors. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Please monitor local media or Weatheradio. To report severe weather, send an email to or tweet reports to #ABStorm.
